The book made me think about the workplace the way I thought about school and college back when I was a student. It's divided into chapters on health, motivation, decision making, and other areas where you can make your emotions work for you. ![]() ![]() No Hard Feelings is about dealing with the hardships and the funships of being a human in a workplace. And since we're not robots, we better stop trying to bottle up our human emotions and learn to harness them to be healthier, happier, and more productive.Īlright, I had to make it two sentences. No Hard Feelings is about us humans at work. If I had to describe it in one sentence, I'd say that. So if you're considering quitting your job, read No Hard feelings first! Had I read it sooner, I'm sure my last few months would've been way more fun. Ironically, I only got to reading it after I was no longer employed. So when I heard about the book, I knew I have to get the paperback. And since I was working in an intense environment at the time, I found the illustrations relatable and hilarious. I stumbled upon Liz and Mollie on Instagram some time ago. ![]()

7/6/2023 0 Comments David sedaris dress![]() Lots of talking about him being a humorist par excellence (more on that anon), comparing him to Woody Allen and Oscar Wilde (because they have so much in common…), and talking about ‘his world’, which I suppose is a clue, but could equally apply to the world created by a novelist. I felt somewhat justified in my false assumption, though, scouring the blurb, because nowhere does it say that it’s autobiographical. Indeed, I was about thirty pages into it before someone referred to the narrator as David, and I suddenly realised that (a) the narrator wasn’t a woman, and (b) it was autobiographical. I took it up to the Lake District with me, thinking it was a novel. Turns out it’s memoir.Ī similar thing happened with Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim (2004) which I received from my friend Laura in a book group Secret Santa in 2011. At some point along the way, this noticing must have developed into delusion, because for some reason I was sure it was a novel about a girl with mental development problems. ![]() ![]() I’ve often seen David Sedaris’s book Me Talk Pretty One Day in bookshops, and thought it was a good title. ![]() ![]() ![]() “Some scars are carved into our bones - a part of who we are, shaping what we become.” But when treachery looms and forbidden magic threatens the kingdom, she must challenge the ruthless Celestial Emperor for her dream-striking a dangerous bargain in which she is torn between losing all she loves or plunging the realm into chaos.ĭaughter of the Moon Goddess begins an enchanting, romantic duology which weaves ancient Chinese mythology into a sweeping adventure of immortals and magic-where love vies with honor, dreams are fraught with betrayal, and hope emerges triumphant. (If you’ve been living under a rock, or on a REALLY long camping trip with no Internet service), you can read ALSC’s statement on the change here. I decided to read it again, because it is relevant to a lot of discussion that is happening right now regarding ALSC changing the name of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award. It wouldn’t surprise me if I suddenly remembered throwing it down in the middle of the story and starting something else. I didn’t think much happened, and I thought it was boring. ![]() I think I read it when I was 7 or 8, and I’m not even sure that I finished it then. This is a book about real places on the map: their sounds and smells, their storied pasts, their physical details, and the people who live there. For all the talk of the "placelessness" of our digital age, the Internet is as fixed in real, physical spaces as the railroad or telephone.
