7/6/2023 0 Comments Little house and the big woodsI recognized and appreciated the conflict, in ways I couldn’t as a kid. I will say that I enjoyed it much more as an adult. I found myself in the midst of heated discussion (I’m still blocked from positively reviewing ALSC on Facebook because someone mad about the name change reported my good ALSC review) about a series of books that I hadn’t read in over 25 years, and if there’s one thing I don’t like, it’s being ignorant when I can do something about it, so I decided to give the first book a reread, possibly, a complete read for the first time. (If you’ve been living under a rock, or on a REALLY long camping trip with no Internet service), you can read ALSC’s statement on the change here. I decided to read it again, because it is relevant to a lot of discussion that is happening right now regarding ALSC changing the name of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award. It wouldn’t surprise me if I suddenly remembered throwing it down in the middle of the story and starting something else. I didn’t think much happened, and I thought it was boring. I think I read it when I was 7 or 8, and I’m not even sure that I finished it then. It has been a looooong time since I read this book.
